Description
Considering the scenarios being faced by the two of the most valuable crops in the Philippines, there is a need for the government to capitalize on the development of both coffee and makapuno industries. The prohibitive cost of planting materials is not affordable to ordinary farmers and there is a limited supply of seedlings to regions. Mass propagation of coffee and makapuno seedlings is now being done by many institutions, however, has relatively low success compared to other countries. One major reason is the high contamination rate due to poorly controlled environmental factors notably airborne microbes and other elements. Thus, through the project of fabricating an enhanced tissue culture growth chamber with controlled environment, the conventional system of embryo culture propagation would be shortened expectedly and will greatly increase the survival rate of seedlings in the in-vitro stage. This project will attempt to address the insufficiency in coffee and coconut seedlings production.
