Description
Under the GALING-PCAARRD Kontra COVID-19 Program of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), Caritas Manila Inc. through the Bukid Kabataan Center in General Trias City, Cavite initiated the project entitled Sustainable Community-based Vegetable Intensive and Efficient Technology-Driven Production Systems or Sustainable Vegies for Bukid Kabataan Center, to rehabilitate the three existing greenhouses facility in the Center through the adoption of CLSU Hydroponics technology, as an intensive vegetable gardening system.
The greenhouses in BK Center, through a partnership with DOST, will utilize GALING-PCAARRD Gulayan sa Pamayanan program which will be equipped with Hydroponics technology focus on the safe production of fresh produce as well as short-cycle crops that can be grown on Drip Irrigation, Deep Water and Nutrient Film techniques and other advanced farming method proven to be highly effective depending on the crop that will be grown.
The scope of this project is to achieve one of GENESIS’s primary objectives, a pristine working example of sustainable food production methods that can be replicated by others in any environment across the nation. This project will function as a proof of concept of the organization’s replication objectives. Furthermore, this is to sustain food supply for the HAPAG-ASA Feeding program of Caritas Manila. It will also provide the organization with a revenue stream for further expansion. The project will focus on the provision of technical and consultancy assistance, training, agricultural supplies, and management support through the assistance of PSTC-Cavite of DOST CALABARZON and PCAARRD.
