Drought and Crop Assessment and Forecasting (DCAF)
Agency
Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research Development
Description
DCAF is an applied science research that aims to improve the nation’s capability of predicting drought, assessing crop yield, and mitigating effects of drought in the Philippines. It provides advisories on optimal planting dates for greater yield during different climate events. This is done by utilizing various crop models and forecasting techniques.
The DCAF project exists as an initiative to mitigate effects of drought in the Philippines using technologies like satellite imagery, GPS, climate models, and other geospatial tools. It also provides technologies to enhance agricultural productivity and improve farm management.
DCAF works closely with its partner agencies: Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
