Description
Innovation Olympics 2.0 (IO 2.0) engaged young Filipinos to take part in shaping the “new normal” in agriculture through technological solutions. East West Seed (EWS), SEARCA, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), and other partners collaborated for IO 2.0, which was themed "Precision Agriculture for Small-Scale Vegetable Farming." IO 2.0 was a way for university students to share, create, and pilot new technology solutions for urban and rural smallholder vegetable farmers. The agri-hackathon finalists comprised six teams from different parts of the Philippines. They received online training and demonstrations as well as seed money for each stage of the competition, including actual implementation of the projects in farming communities. The winning teams from Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) and University of Mindanao (UM) that tied for the grand prize developed an Automated Irrigation and Nutrient Management (AIRIN) system and Alipugpug Tech Solutions vertical farming system (Project ANGAT), respectively.
